Stroke Awareness
According to the CDC, Stroke kills twice as many women as breast cancer, making stroke the third leading cause of death for women. Sabrina Royall is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner in this edition she talks about stroke awareness: the warning warning signs and stroke prevention.
At least 20% of women aged 55 to 75 will have a stroke. Four out of five strokes are preventable, that is why it is important to know your risk. Be stroke aware. Learn the warning signs of a stroke and how you can prevent one.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, here are the signs of a stroke:
- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.
- Unexplainable trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
