The Taproom Series debuted with Erin Lunsford performing at Starr Hill Pilot Brewery and Side Stage in Roanoke, Virginia. This episode includes original music from Virginia’s own Erin Lunsford. Erin tells us what inspires her and Starr Hill’s retail manager Allie Hochman talks about what makes Starr Hill one of the most successful craft brewers in the state. This single, “27 Summers Down,” is on Erin’s latest solo album “The Damsel.”
Erin started playing music as a child, first the piano, then the guitar. “My family plays bluegrass music, so I started to sit in on jams and entered children’s flatpicking guitar competitions. I even tried fiddle for a year or so! My mom taught me bluegrass and gypsy jazz guitar. I started writing my own tunes in high school as my guitar technique improved.”
While attending the University of Virginia Erin met her band mates, “The Wildfire,” a staple on the festival circuit. For Roots2Rock she appeared solo. You can read more about Erin on the Roots2Rock blog, “Backstage Pass.”
