Art Therapy can benefit all ages. Coloring books for adults have been used to relieve stress. When working with an art therapist, people can work on post-traumatic stress, self-perception and manage chronic health conditions.
Stevie Holcomb is a realtor with a love for cats. When she started a Facebook group, “My House, Not My Cat,” she had no idea it would get 10s of thousands of followers from all over the world and an international book deal. Meet these women on this edition of Sisterhood of the Second Act
Art Therapy
A night out with friends led Leeann Allagas to a counseling specialty of art therapy. Allagas is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) serving within the local Roanoke Community. She treats mostly adults and has seen dramatic transformations. Art therapy has been used to help with treatment of depression, anxiety and Allagas says research is showing that it can benefit chemically addicted clients as well. In this edition of Sisterhood of the Second Act, Allagas walks us through a typical art therapy session and she talks about how art therapy can help.
Cat Visitors
Cats are independent. Apparently many people out there have cats in their homes, but they do not actually own the cat. Stevie Holcomb was enthralled by stories of people who have mysteriously found cats in their homes. These uninvited visitors often become frequent guests and sometimes stay for a lifetime. So she started the Facebook group, “My house, not my cat.” It became wildly popular prompting a publisher to reach out to Stevie and the internationally released book, This is not my cat. Feline friends who pick their humans was the result. Watch the full story on this edition of Sisterhood of the Second Act.
