Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women. The disease often presents in unique ways in women. In this edition of Sisterhood of the Second Act you will learn how to to stay heart healthy.
Chances are you have heard of Junior Achievement, but you probably are not aware of all the organization does to help the next generation. Find out how your work experience can inspire young entrepreneurs.
Heart Disease
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention despite the increase in awareness over the past decades, only 56% of women recognize that heart disease is their number 1 killer. Registered nurse Heather Snyder is the Structural Heart Coordinator and the Cardiovascular Outcomes Coordinator at LewisGale Medical Center. She tells us how to recognize the symptoms of heart disease.
Snyder also weighs in on how to prevent heart disease. You guessed it: diet and exercise are key.
Investing in their future
Helping a young entrepreneur can be as easy as volunteering your time to share the knowledge you have gained during a long successful career. And training future business owners and great employees starts a little younger than you might think. Junior Achievement starts educating elementary students on how the business world works, good financial practices both personal and business to help them pave the way to a successful future.
Katherin Elam has been president of Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia for more than 23 years. JA uses volunteers to help with educational programs for children to help them become business leaders of the future.
