Preventative healthcare
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Women are often told they need mammograms. There are other preventative screenings we should be getting as well. Dr. Kate Burmaster explains what screenings are key for preventative healthcare in this edition of Sisterhood of the Second Act.
Dr. Burmaster weighs in on when we need to get that mammogram as well as at what age women can stop getting pap smears. And it is no surprise that Dr. Burmaster says a good diet and exercise regimen are key to staying healthy.
Speaking up saved her life
Rhonda Banner got the diagnosis every woman fears, breast cancer. The Yoga instructor found the support of good friends and the lessons learned from yoga, helped her find her voice, which ultimately saved her life. Banner had to walk away from several doctors before she found the ones who would listen to her. Banner found that even though the first doctors she reached out to were women, they did not listen to her concerns or spend the time needed to make an accurate diagnosis.
Ultimately, listening to that voice inside led her to doctors who listened just in the nick of time.
