Suddenly Single?

What happens when you are over 50 and suddenly single? Whether it’s due to a divorce or the death of the spouse, for women the financial implications can be scary. Pay inequities often leave women with less retirement moneys. According to the United Nations, on average, women make 82-cents for every dollar men earn. Women often take time away from the workforce to raise children which can impact the money earned over a career.

Kathryn Matherly is program manager for the Financial Empowerment Center in Roanoke City.  In this Sisterhood of the Second Act she tells us what financial steps we can take to make sure we are prepared for whatever situations rise.
